Ways to Give

For more than 135 years, Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement (Riis Settlement) has provided critical programs and services to help underserved New Yorkers achieve self-sufficiency. From our earliest days serving immigrant families living in the tenements on the Lower East Side to our decades of service in the underserved communities of western Queens, the generosity of countless individuals has sustained our work and furthered our mission to be a catalyst for change. With your support, we can continue to have a meaningful and lasting impact on the individuals and families we serve.

Below are some of the many ways you can donate to support our work today and in the future.

Empower Change in Western Queens: Your Donation Can Make a Difference

Riis Settlement builds and strengthens underserved communities in western Queens and acts as a catalyst for change. Donate today, and together, let's strengthen western Queens, one neighborhood at a time.

More Ways to Give

You can support the mission of Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement while maximizing the benefits of a deferred gift. Your gift becomes part of your estate planning to protect valuable assets from income, capital gains and/ or estate taxes.

Naming opportunities are available for each of Riis Settlement’s programs. Just as Jacob Riis’s legacy lives on through the important work we do, you can leave a legacy with a planned gift.

Here are some popular estate planning techniques that all come with certain tax benefits such as savings on income, capital gain, gift, and/or estate taxes:

Bequests by Will or Living Trust
You can leave a bequest in your will or living trust. Bequests may be in the form of cash, securities, real estate, tangible personal property, or other assets.

Beneficiary Designations
You can make Riis Settlement a beneficiary of your retirement, donor-advised funds, financial accounts, or life insurance policy.

Life Income Gifts

Charitable Gift Annuities
You can make a gift of cash or securities to Riis in exchange for Riis making fixed, regular payments to you for life, with the remainder of the gift going to Riis Settlement at the end of the annuity.

Charitable Remainder Trusts
You can give cash, securities, or other appreciated property to a trust which pays you a fixed income for life, and then the trust principal belongs to Riis Settlement.

Riis Settlement recommends that you consult with your attorney or tax advisor to determine the best strategy for you to make a lasting impact.
