UNH Trailblazer Award

Congratulations to our Immigrant Services Case Manager, Mialka Marte, on receiving the UNH Trailblazer Award. This award recognizes settlement house staff for their outstanding efforts to meet a pressing community need. Mialka was honored at UNH’s Annual Benefit and Celebration in September, where attendees from the settlement house community and beyond had the opportunity to learn about her accomplishments.

As our Immigrant Services Case Manager, Mialka plays a crucial role in assisting immigrant community members in accessing essential resources such as government benefits, housing, childcare, and health and mental health services.

In recent years, she has been especially dedicated to supporting new arrivals in local shelters, helping them integrate into their new city. Her commitment extends beyond case management; she has organized biweekly clothing distributions, connected countless vulnerable families to emergency cash assistance to meet their basic needs, and provided personal support to many during their most challenging times.

This award is a testament to Mialka’s significant impact on our settlement house community. Her willingness to go above and beyond in addressing critical issues affecting our most vulnerable members is truly commendable. Thank you, Mialka, for embodying Riis values and being an inspiration to us all. We also extend our gratitude to UNH for recognizing our wonderful colleague.
