October 7 marked the 34th United Nations (UN) International Day of Older Persons. We were thrilled to attend this special event at the UN headquarters alongside several members from our older adult center and our two Community Solutions Program fellows, Abinet and Guisselle, who came to support the event’s co-chair, and our executive director, Christopher Hanway.
This year’s theme, “Aging with Dignity: The Importance of Strengthening Care and Support Systems for Older Persons Worldwide,” highlighted the challenges faced by caregivers and older adult care recipients. The conference featured several experts who discussed policies and practices aimed at enhancing community support systems, with a key focus on the importance of human rights and autonomy in decisions regarding care and quality of life. Importantly, the event recognized caregivers for their diverse and invaluable contributions.
As an older adult services provider, Riis is dedicated to ensuring that older adults in our community receive the care and support they deserve, reflecting the values emphasized during the conference. The event provided a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in the field.
