Supporting New Migrants in NYC

This month, Riis was proud to work with the Queens Borough President to host an Immigrant Resource Fair. As new migrants continue to arrive in NYC, Riis Settlement is committed to connecting them with the necessary services and supports to build safe and healthy lives for themselves and their families. Eighteen different partner organizations, including Riis’ Immigrant Services outreach team, tabled at the event. Attendees received information about free legal services and consultations, tax prep, healthcare, financial assistance, job placement, and even picked up some winter clothing.

In addition to this event, Riis has stepped up to support new migrants by adding two new ESOL classes to our roster to meet increased demand from English learners and hosted three workshops to inform new migrants about applying for IDNYC, the municipal ID that provides access to a variety of city services and programs for those who may have difficulty obtaining government-issued photo ID, especially undocumented immigrants.
