Older adults at Riis have been busy! In April, over 50 NNORC and senior center participants traveled to Philadelphia to visit the African American Museum, the first institution built by a major US city for the purpose of archiving and interpreting the life and work of African Americans. Attendees enjoyed lunch together at Golden Corral after exploring the exhibits.
The following week, over 100 community members gathered for a Mother’s Day celebration, arranged by our NNORC program. The festivities included presentations from our tai chi and crochet classes, four dance performances, an introduction to our mental health specialist and her available services, as well as great music, food, and more! All mothers received gift bags including chocolates, Mother’s Day shirts, and mugs from Director of Senior Services Gwendolyn Wilson.
Finally, later this month, older adults enjoyed a night on broadway. Attendees saw the musical “MJ,” celebrating the life and work of Michael Jackson. It was very special to be able to offer cultural outings like this again, and give older adults the opportunity to enjoy all that the community has to offer!
