Riis is honored to be among the grant recipients of the Queens District Attorney’s Community Youth Development and Crime Prevention Program (CYDCPP). This initiative, launched in 2021, aims to provide youth activities and wraparound services to help prevent crime and keep young people out of the criminal justice system.

The CYDCPP has engaged over 14,000 youth, providing essential resources in conflict resolution, civic engagement, mental health awareness, STEM, and college readiness. It supports youth in developing important life skills while promoting public safety.

Originally including 21 organizations, the program has expanded to incorporate 13 new Queens-based organizations, with Riis Settlement being one of them. We are excited to collaborate with the DA’s office to provide engaging evening activities at our Queensbridge community center and to continue creating a safe and empowering environment for local youth.

In other funding news, we are proud to announce a partnership between our Immigrant Services program, the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs (MOIA), and the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City that supports newly arrived immigrant families with children. This initiative, supported by an investment from Casey Family Programs, establishes “Immigrant Support Centers” and will enhance our ability to provide vital services to thousands of newly arrived families.

As a long-standing settlement house, Riis Settlement is committed to integrating and supporting immigrant communities. Since 2001, our Immigrant Services program has helped thousands of immigrants access essential resources to thrive. This partnership will increase our capacity to provide additional ESOL classes, host legal orientations, and conduct resource workshops for hundreds of families striving to build safe and productive lives in their new homes.

We are deeply grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with MOIA and the Mayor’s Fund in this essential effort to create welcoming and supportive environments for all immigrants in New York City.
