Pregnancy and New Parent Program: Story Time

Over the summer, Riis’ Pregnancy and New Parent Program held Story Time sessions for parents and caregivers of children ages 0-2. The sessions were full of learning and laughter as the children bonded with their guardians over colorful and adventurous books. Some parents read to their children, while others sparked imaginative stories through picture books. There were many sing-alongs and a reminder about the importance of singing during daily tasks such as feeding, bathing, or changing diapers. At the end of the sessions, participating families received a bundle of free books and $25 gift cards to help continue their literacy journeys at home.

Our Story Time sessions aim to teach parents and caregivers how to encourage the development of literacy skills in their children through thoughtfully selected books and songs. By incorporating reading into their babies’ everyday routines, parents can build a strong foundation for learning and literacy for the rest of their children’s lives.
