Art displays will cover the gymnasium to showcase our talented Riis Settlement participants Cultural songs and dances, fashion shows and local vendors will keep everyone engaged.

This year we will also launch our first Riis Settlement Read-a-thon during the multicultural festival. The program is designed to strengthen literacy among our young people, encourage all our friends and neighbors to support the reading efforts of our children and serve as a fundraiser for the organization. Riis Academy participants in grades kindergarten through 12 will commit to reading picture and chapter books while collecting sponsorships from friends and family. We are proud to count the Astoria Bookshop, the Enigma Bookstore, and Lukas Lighting among the local businesses supporting our youth.

Christopher Hanway, Executive Director of Riis Settlement, said “We are glad to be hosting this multicultural festival. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year and gives us the opportunity to showcase all the great work being done by our young people. We’re also pleased to be launching our first read-a-thon. Encouraging strong literacy skills is a guaranteed way to support the future success of our Riis Academy youth.”
