On Friday, December 2nd, middle-schoolers from Riis Academy’s Queensbridge and Ravenswood campuses hosted the 2nd Annual Candlelight Night at the Riis. The Queensbridge gymnasium was turned into an elegant restaurant, with the young people serving as hosts and hostesses, servers, greeters and clean-up crew.
The event was made possible due to Riis Settlement’s ongoing partnership with New York Cares Culinary Explorers, who helped the youth plan the menu, cook the nutritious dinner (which include two options for salad, main and dessert courses), and serve the food. Also on hand were parents, community members, and partners from City Year and the Joan Mitchell Foundation. Music was provided by our own Albert Pollard and his crew! For photos, click here.
