Congrats to our Scholarship Winners!

Kelly Lam

Congrats to all our Riis Academy graduates who are embarking on their very first semester of college this year. A very special congrats to two of our Riis Academy-InfoTech graduates who won competitive scholarships this summer to help them on their post-secondary journeys.

Kelly Lam was awarded a $1,500 United Neighborhood Houses ViacomCBS 2021 College Scholarship. The scholarship program seeks to promote tolerance and positive community change by supporting the growth of future leaders through higher education.  Kelly was chosen by the selection committee from a group of extremely strong applicants.  The committee was especially impressed with her successes both inside and out of the classroom. Kelly’s achievement was celebrated by Viacom on a billboard in Times Square! Kelly is currently attending Baruch College where she is majoring in marketing.

“Along with the money my family really needed, this award told me that I can actually achieve things. I can actually achieve things if I put my heart into what I do,” expressed Kelly.

Sunil Sharma was awarded a one-time $10,000 New York Power Authority (NYPA) Future Energy Leaders scholarship. The scholarship is part of NYPA’s commitment to further racial justice and equity in the utility sector and help ensure that traditionally under-represented students have opportunities to participate in and benefit from the clean energy economy. Sunil is attending Mercy College where he is studying business.

“Because of this scholarship, I can go to college without having to worry about debt,” said Sunil.

The staff at Riis Academy-InfoTech are incredibly proud of both students!
