Celebrating National Volunteer Month

Throughout the month of April, Riis is excited to highlight the amazing work that our volunteers are doing to make our community stronger. One of our volunteer English tutors, Amy, said about her experience: “I have been taking online Spanish lessons with Spanish tutors from all over South America. The lessons have worked to help me improve my fluency and raise my level of Spanish. These tutors also teach me about their culture and are just the loveliest people. I was so impressed with my experience that I wanted to do the same for anyone who is motivated to learn English. That is why I am volunteering at Jacob Riis.” Our 1:1 volunteer English tutoring program, created to help our ESOL students build their conversation skills with native speakers outside of their group classes, has been highly impactful for all involved. Visit our volunteer page to learn more and to sign up to be an English tutor.
