Our 17th Annual Fall Family Feast took place on November 16, 2024, and was a great success! We served meals at both our Queensbridge and Ravenswood Cornerstone Community Centers and also delivered meals to the homebound elderly, local shelters, and residential programs. The total number of meals served was an impressive 1,181.
During the celebration, Queensbridge had a special visit from Mr. Met, who showed off his dance moves and posed for fun family photos. DJ Arson kept everyone dancing all afternoon and into the evening with great music. Over the course of two days, more than 160 volunteers helped with food preparation, decorating, serving, and cleanup.
Our volunteers were a mix of community members, Riis staff and participants, board members, and groups from Con Edison, YMCA LIC, Dow Jones, Citi, NYC Social Work Ladies Collective, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. – Nu Beta Sigma Alumnae Chapter, NYU, College of Staten Island, Pennsylvania State University, Council Member Julie Won’s Office, and Senator Kristen Gonzalez’s Office. We are deeply grateful for all their hard work, as well as the generous support of our sponsors: the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, Council Member Julie Won, and State Senator Kristen Gonzalez.
We also hosted turkey distributions at our Older Adult Center on November 21 and 22. Thanks to our sponsors—Plaxall Inc., MetroPlus Health, NYCDCC, and Assembly Member Zohran K. Mamdani’s office—we distributed 225 turkeys, helping community members enjoy a Thanksgiving week filled with warm meals and a strong sense of community support.
