A Message from our Executive Director

In response to the rising xenophobia, hatred and violence aimed at Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, Riis Settlement is outraged and deeply saddened. We are proud to count many members of New York’s large AAPI population among our diverse community as we work together to achieve our mission.

Dear Friends,

In response to the rising xenophobia, hatred and violence aimed at Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders, Riis Settlement is outraged and deeply saddened. We are proud to count many members of New York’s large AAPI population among our diverse community as we work together to achieve our mission.  We therefore send a clear and uniform message: Riis Settlement denounces hatred and bigotry in all its forms and will do everything in its power to ensure the safety and well-being of our Asian neighbors, employees, partners and friends. Members of the Asian community are among those on the frontlines of virus response efforts, risking their lives to help and protect others; they are doctors and healthcare workers at the hospitals treating COVID-19 patients, grocery store and restaurant owners and workers keeping all of us fed, and first responders protecting us and our families. We ask you to join us in standing against violence against the Asian community and supporting individuals who experience hatred.

In Solidarity,

Christopher Hanway
Executive Director
